IHG Hotels and Resorts plans to bring its Kimpton brand to Italy next year.

Kimpton will debut on the island of Sicily in the second half of 2025 as part of a management agreement with partner Società Turistica Alberghiera Taorminese.

Located in the hilltop town of Taormina on the island’s east coast, the boutique-style hotel will feature 59 rooms, “destination dining”, a breakfast room and bar terrace offering panoramic views from Calabria to the Bay of Isolabella.

Leisure facilities, meanwhile, will include an outdoor Mediterranean garden, 20-metre swimming pool and a tennis court.

The Kimpton in Sicily will be IHG Hotels & Resorts’ 30th hotel in Italy, joining recent openings such as Six Senses Rome, InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace and Hotel Indigo Florence.

Additionally, two further Hotel Indigo properties are set to open in Turin and Trieste over the coming years, as well as IHG’s first Vignette Collection property, Hotel Alexandra, in Rome in 2025.

Willemijn Geels, VP Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, commented:

“Italy has long been known for its reputation of luxury travel, breath taking coastal locations, and vibrant communities – and our growth strategy in the country has been designed to complement this. Following a surge of activity in 2023, which saw us more than double our luxury and lifestyle offerings in this market, we’re now excited to be partnering with Società Turistica Alberghiera Taorminese to further expand our presence in Italy with this boutique lifestyle property on the picturesque island of Sicily.”

IHG purchased Kimpton in 2014, and has gradually expanded the brand beyond its US roots, with openings including Kimpton St Honoré Paris in 2021.

The brand now counts more than 75 hotels worldwide, including locations in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Manchester.

In the coming years a further 54 hotels will join the Kimpton brand, with the brand hoping to surpass its 100 hotels milestone and reach 20 countries by 2025.

Earlier this month the brand opened its first hotel in Mexico City:
