Southampton airport has confirmed KLM will operate a daily evening flight to Amsterdam Schiphol this summer.

The service will depart Schiphol at 1900, arriving into Southampton at 1910, with the return leg leaving the Hampshire airport at 1940 and arriving in Amsterdam at 2150.

The additional frequency will complement KLM’s existing daily 0750 (0925 on Sunday) and 1720 departures from Southampton, and will begin on 31 March, operating daily except Saturday.

The news follows the recent opening of a 164-metre extension to Southampton’s runway, which the airport hopes will lead to an influx of new carriers and routes.

At present KLM is one of just a handful of scheduled airlines operating out of Southampton, the others being Aer Lingus, Aurigny, Blue Islands, British Airways, Eastern Airways, easyJet and Loganair.
