Malaysia Airlines plans to launch service between its Kuala Lumpur hub and Amritsar in India’s Northern Punjab region.
In its latest schedule update, oneworld member Malaysia Airlines has filed two weekly frequencies on Kuala Lumpur-Amritsar.
The route is currently scheduled to launch on 8 November and operate every Wednesday and Saturday from the Malaysian capital.
Malaysia Airlines plans to operate Boeing 737-800 aircraft on these six-hour flights. These feature 16 business class recliners in a 2-2 configuration, and 144 economy class seats in a 3-3 layout.
Kuala Lumpur-Amritsar is a popular route, and Malaysia Airlines will be the third carrier to offer nonstop service between the cities.
Batik Air Malaysia flies the route four times a week with Boeing 737 Max aircraft, and AirAsia X is currently operating to Amritsar twice-weekly with Airbus A330-300 widebody aircraft, including the airline’s ‘Premium Flatbed’ product.
Malaysia Airlines is now expected to take delivery of its first 737 Max 8 aircraft from Boeing in September. The carrier was originally due to receive its first 737 Max today but had to postpone this to next month because of delays caused by Boeing.
