Malaysia Airlines will be offering complimentary wifi for all business suite and business class passengers, as well as its Enrich frequent flyer programme Platinum members regardless of their class of travel.
Initially, the free wifi service will be available from July 1 to December 31.
The service will be available on 20 aircraft only, including its A350 long-haul services into London’s Heathrow.
The offer comes with a data cap of 100 MB per sector, and a bandwidth of up to 512 kbps.
In another first, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) airlines – Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings – have been given regulatory approval by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to enable gate-to-gate connectivity for passengers on its airlines, a first for travellers departing from Malaysia.
Beginning July 1, passengers can stay connected to their personal/portable electronic devices (PEDs) throughout their journey, from the moment they board the aircraft through to arrival at their destination, by enabling ‘flight mode’.
Passengers will no longer be required to switch off their PEDs during take-off and landing, as was previously required “due to regulatory and aircraft requirements”.
PEDs include mobile phones, tablets, and other small hand-held devices that are stowable in the passenger seat pocket.

By enabling gate-to-gate connectivity across all our airlines, it allows passengers to stay connected throughout their journey with us; whether it’s to keep their loved ones updated on the move or even get some work done during their flight.”
He added: “As part of our connectivity strategy, we will be actively expanding the number of our aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi to provide an improved in-flight experience.”
MAG is also investing in various other customer experience improvements, including an upgraded in-flight entertainment selection.
