US railroad company Amtrak has confirmed plans to resume its cross-border service between Seattle and Vancouver later this month.
This section of the Amtrak Cascades corridor between Vancouver and Seattle was suspended in March 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It will resume with a daily service on September 26, rising to twice daily “as Amtrak staffing and equipment allow”.
The service will depart Seattle at 0745, stopping at five cities enroute before arriving into Vancouver at 1145. The return leg will leave Vancouver at 1745, arriving back into Seattle at 2210.
According to the company “Amtrak Cascades runs along the water from British Columbia, through river and mountain vistas in Washington and Oregon, offering customers views of some of the country’s most distinctive cities and spectacular natural attractions”.
Non-US citizens travelling on the route into the United States must be fully vaccinated, while customers entering Canada must also be vaccinated if non-citizens, as well as being required to use the ArriveCAN app before travel, and wear a mask in Canadian stations and on board trains when travelling through Canada.
The resumption of the Seattle-Vancouver service follows the restart of trains between New York and Toronto earlier this year.
