IHG Hotels and Resorts has opened the latest European property under its boutique Hotel Indigo brand.
The 158-room Hotel Indigo Vienna – Naschmarkt is located in the city’s Margareten district, and has been inspired by “the story of the district’s secret gardens and hidden treasures”, with design elements including “colourful tropical themed wallpaper and rich plant-inspired artwork”.
The hotel’s atrium features “native hanging plants, bee-friendly flower and herb beds and various trees creating a harmonious transition between urban living to a sanctuary of calm”, and there is also a rooftop garden which the hotel hopes will create a new habitat for insects and birds.

Gold touches in the bathrooms and patterned hallway carpets have been inspired by local architect and key member of the Secessionist movement Otto Wagner, while a bronze metal facade by the entrance to the hotel is “intended to represent the city’s evolution into the modern design scene”.
Facilities include Pigment restaurant, a lobby bar, fitness centre and a meeting space for up to 20 guests.
IHG launched the Hotel Indigo brand in 2004, and it currently has around 130 properties across over 15 countries, with recent European openings including Hotel Indigo Belgrade.
There are also over 100 hotels in the brand’s pipeline, including the forthcoming Hotel Indigo Exeter, housed within the former House of Fraser department store on the city’s High Street and set to open in the fourth quarter of this year.
Commenting on the Vienna opening Stefanie Augustin, general manager, Hotel Indigo Vienna – Naschmarkt, said:
“We are pleased to open our doors and accept our first guests into the first Hotel Indigo in Austria. We sit in the heart of the surrounding neighbourhood and strive to make all the locals proud, by helping to bring a bit of that external story in so guests can truly experience what Vienna has to offer. ”
