IHG Hotels and Resorts is to open its latest UK Hotel Indigo property in Exeter next year.

The hotel will be housed within the former House of Fraser department store on the city’s High Street.

The store shut in January 2019, and is now set to be transformed into the 104-room Hotel Indigo Exeter, alongside “an urban spa with five treatment rooms”.

The hotel is expected to open in summer 2022, and will feature a destination ground floor restaurant and bar, a basement level sports bar, and a rooftop bar and lounge with views of Exeter Cathedral.

Hotel Indigo Exeter will be operated by Castlebridge Hospitality, which also counts Hotel Indigo Chester, Hotel Indigo Stratford upon Avon and Hotel Indigo Bath (which opened last September) within its portfolio.

Hotel Indigo opens in Bath

The Hotel Indigo brand launched in 2004, and currently has around 120 properties across over 15 countries, including recent openings in CyprusMadrid and Brussels. There are around 100 hotels in the brand’s pipeline, scheduled to open in the next three to five years.

Commenting on the news Simon Hall, Castlebridge Hospitality’s operations director, said:

“We are excited to be working with the team at Hotel Exe Limited to create what will be the city’s principal hotel. We love to deliver locally inspired and innovative restaurant and bar concepts and this hotel is a prime example of how Hotel Indigo draws on the local neighbourhood to inspire every aspect of the hotel, from intriguing design to locally inspired menus.

Having recently developed and opened three of our own Hotel Indigo hotels, and with a further two in development, it’s great to strengthen our position as the leading manager of Hotel Indigo hotels in the UK and we look forward to welcoming guests in Exeter next year”.
