Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas has added a property in Budapest to its European portfolio.

The Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel is located on Erzsebet Krt boulevard on the Pest side of the Danube river, and occupies a palatial building which dates back to 1894.

The building was designed by Hungarian architect Alajos Haszmann and features Italian Renaissance, Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau influences.

The hotel is undergoing a renovation which will be complete in spring 2022 and include a new lobby, “stylish rooms” and the addition of White Salon – a restaurant serving quintessential Hungarian cuisine.

The property features 185 rooms and suites kitted out with centuries-old art and antiques, with two 135 sqm presidential suites featuring Murano glass chandeliers, custom-designed furniture, marble bathrooms and Italian design features.

Dining venues include The New York Café, featuring frescoed ceilings and Venetian glass chandeliers, The Poet Bar, the Deep Water Breakfast Room, and the Atrium.

Events facilities range from an elegant ballroom for up to 550 guests to small venues filled with natural light and baroque details, and conference centres designed by Iosa Ghini.

A spa will join the property in late 2022 with four treatment rooms and relaxation facilities, drawing inspiration from the brand’s Thai roots and Budapest’s thermal bath heritage.

Activities on offer will include vintage VW Samba camper van excursions across the city and countryside, and cruises on the Danube river.

Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotels, Anantara’s parent company, commented:

“We are thrilled to announce our first property in Hungary, the Anantara New York Palace is a gem offering unique architecture, rich history and heritage. The majestic hotel is a strategic step in the continued growth of Anantara in Europe and represents a great addition to the brand’s portfolio.”

The hotel group recently added a property in Rome to its European portfolio.
