Qatar Airways has selected Recaro’s newest CL3810 economy seating for its A321 neo aircraft.
The seat manufacturer will provide the seating for 20 of the carrier’s A321 neos, with the first aircraft expected to be installed at the end of 2022.
According to Recaro “The customized seat features offers a wider backrest for increased comfort and privacy, as well as a six-way headrest with adjustable neck support feature that can only be found on Recaro seats”.

The manufacturer also said that the seat features “a combination of innovative ergonomic technology, premium comfort cushions with layered foam, and lightweight smart engineering”, adding that “The seat’s unique shape was designed to support the passenger’s points of tension, which reflects the award-winning design of the Recaro Automotive sport seat”.
Recaro said that compared to its predecessor – the CL3710 – the CL3810 offers an additional inch of living space, and “a more advanced articulated seat”. The weight of the seat has also been reduced by 15 per cent.
In 2019 Qatar Airways unveiled what it said would be its “next generation of economy class” – the semi fixed back shell Optimares Quadra 3 seat.
At the time the carrier said that this seat would initially be installed on its A320 neos before being rolled out across the airline’s fleet.
It’s not clear where this Recaro announcement leaves those plans – Business Traveller has contacted Qatar Airways and will post any response here.
Commenting on the news Dr Mark Hiller, CEO and Shareholder at Recaro Aircraft Seating, said:
“Partnering with Qatar Airways is always energizing because they expect nothing less than excellence in all aspects of their business.
“We anticipated the CL3810 being a game-changer for the economy class seat segment, which has been confirmed now that Qatar Airways, a five-star airline, has selected it.”
