Qatar Airways has unveiled the new business class suite which has been designed specifically for its B787-9 aircraft.

The carrier has already taken delivery of seven B787-9s, with a total of 30 on order, but has yet to commence passenger flights with the aircraft.

This will happen today (Friday June 25), with the inaugural service being between Doha and Milan, followed by routes to Athens, Barcelona, Dammam, Karachi, Kuala Lumpur and Madrid.

The narrower interiors of the B787-9 meant that Qatar Airways was forced to design a new seat for its latest Dreamliner aircraft, rather than fitting the popular Qsuite which features on the carrier’s A350s and B777s.

The B787-9 Adient Ascent business class suite is configured in a 1-2-1 herringbone layout, with all 30 suites benefiting from direct aisle access and sliding privacy doors.

Features include a 79-inch fully flat bed, and a dedicated mobile phone holder with wireless charging technology which can be used with compatible IOS and Android devices.

Passengers sitting in adjoining centre suites can also “slide the privacy panels away at the touch of a button to create their very own enclosed private space”.

Meanwhile in economy there are 281 Recaro seats with 13-inch IFE screens and “a rotatable armrest that can be completely stowed away to the backrest, providing a more comfortable and spacious experience”.

Commenting on the news Qatar Airways group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, said:

“In-line with our commitment to offering our passengers an unparalleled travel experience, we are pleased to introduce this much-anticipated Business Class Suite on Qatar Airways’ newest wide-body aircraft, the Boeing 787-9 which will debut onto a number of key routes within our network.

“The new Business Class Suite sets yet another industry standard with a uniquely private experience for premium passengers travelling with us, which is becoming increasingly valuable during this pandemic, while showcasing Qatar Airways’ five-star standards of excellence and Qatari hospitality that are quintessential on all of our flights.

“Our passengers deserve the best and I am confident that they will appreciate the larger Dreamliner variant for its unmatched comfort in the sky. Passengers can rest assured that its responsible impact on the environment fully aligns with our ambition to achieve the highest levels of sustainability.”
