Finnair to resume flights to Chicago and Los Angeles

Finnair has outlined plans to fly to over 60 destinations this summer, including the resumption of routes to Chicago and Los Angeles.

Like many carriers worldwide, Finnair is focusing on leisure destinations, with flights resuming to destinations including Reykjavik, Bodo (Norway), Nice, Lisbon and Vilnius, and additional frequencies to Greek islands including Rhodes, Chania and Santorini, and to Spanish destinations including Mallorca, Malaga and Alicante.

In the US the carrier is already operating flights to New York, and plans to increase these to three flights per week. It will also resume service to Chicago and Los Angeles in mid-June, “subject to the development of US travel guidelines”.

Finnair said that as “travel guidelines are likely to change in many countries during the summer”, it will introduce a new “AI-powered solution for customers to explore available destinations and keep up with the latest travel restrictions in different countries”.

“We closely follow how travel regulations develop across our markets and have the flexibility to increase flights based on demand, seizing opportunities created when travel restrictions are lifted,” said Ole Orvér, Finnair’s chief commercial officer.

All Finnair flights purchased by August 31, 2021 include a flexible policy allowing customer to change travel dates, regardless of ticket type, and the carrier’s complimentary Covid-19 insurance cover has been extended for booking made up until June 30, 2021.

As we reported earlier this week, from May 11 customers travelling with Finnair to Finland will have the option to show Covid-19 vaccination certification before boarding their flight, as an alternative to presenting either a negative Covid-19 test result, or “an immunity/recovery certificate”.
