Accor has announced plans for a new hotel under its budget Ibis brand at Edinburgh airport.

The 251-room property will be located “next to the airport” and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2023.

It will be marketed under the group’s core Ibis offering (also known as Ibis Red – for more details of the Ibis, Ibis Styles and Ibis Budget brands, see this page on Accor’s website).

The hotel will feature the brand’s “urban plaza” design concept, with “flexible social and working hubs”. Facilities will include a restaurant, bar and breakfast area, as well as 125 car parking spaces and three parking spaces for coaches.

Accor is partnering with Create Developments on the property, which has previously delivered projects including the Hampton by Hilton Blackpool and Hampton by Hilton Manchester.

Ibis Edinburgh Airport will join existing Accor properties in the Scottish capital, including Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel, Ibis Edinburgh Centre Royal Mile – Hunter Square, Ibis Styles Edinburgh St Andrew Square Hotel, Aparthotel Adagio Edinburgh Royal Mile, Ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge – Royal Mile Hotel, and Novotel Edinburgh Centre Hotel.

Commenting on the new signing, Phillip Lassman, vice president of development, Accor Northern Europe, said:

“Ibis has always been a trailblazer in the economy hotel sector and the new design concept is a transformation of the brand. We are excited to see the evolution of the network in the UK.

“We believe this new hotel will be a great fit for Edinburgh Airport, offering future leisure and business travellers the perfect design and location for international departures, as well as a base from which to explore the city.”

Edinburgh is set to welcome several high profile hotels next year, including Virgin Hotels Edinburgh, and W Edinburgh.
