Intercontinental Hotels Group is to begin offering dynamic pricing for its rewards night redemptions in the UK from this week.

Most of the group’s UK properties are currently closed, but as they start to reopen IHG Rewards Club members will see dynamic pricing on their redemptions, meaning the number of points needed will go up and down depending on demand.

The move follows last month’s launch of dynamic pricing for properties in Greater China, where hotels have been reopening as the number of coronavirus infections has receded.

IHG said that in China, “the introduction of dynamic Reward Nights allowed members to experience the benefit of a variable pricing model in the current travel environment”, with points remaining either flat to 2019, or being lower for the next 50 weeks of stay dates.

The group also said that over 65 per cent of its Greater China properties “rolled out with a reduction of point amounts due to Dynamic Reward Nights”, with some hotels see a reduction in points requirements of up to 30,000 points compared to previous rates.

IHG said that the dynamic pricing would complement existing benefits for Reward Club members, including “ exclusive member rates, no blackout dates for Reward Nights, and free wifi”.

In April the group also extended IHG Rewards Club membership statuses through until January 2022, “allowing members to enjoy all the benefits of the status they earned during 2019”.
