Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has become the latest hotel group to extend membership status within its loyalty programme.

IHG Rewards Club members will see their status extended through until January 2022, “allowing members to enjoy all the benefits of the status they earned during 2019”.

For Spire Elite members this means they will be able to Choose from their annual Choice benefit of either 25,000 bonus points or the gifting of Platinum Elite status for a further year.

Points expiration for Club membeers has been paused until December 31, 2020, and there is a complimentary three-month membership extension to members of the InterContinental Ambassador programme, who will also receive a three-month extension on unredeemed Weekend Night Certificates.

The extensions will be automatically applied to member accounts “in the coming weeks”.

The changes are in addition to already announced reduced requirements for qualifying for higher tier status in 2020. More details on this can be found in our round-up of hotel loyalty programme changes here.

IHG joins other global hotel groups including Hilton and Marriott in extended members statuses in the light of current global travel restrictions.
