Due to the ongoing unrest in Assam, owing to the Citizenship Amendment Bill, Indian airlines namely Indigo, Goair, Spicejet and Vistara have announced waiver on cancellation and rescheduling charges for their flights operating in the northeast Indian state.
Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2019 proposes or claims to make it easier for migrants of specific religions to acquire Indian citizenship. The bill does not cover certain areas of northeast, and is therefore facing a severe backlash in that region.
As per the recent update, the Interglobe Aviation-led carrier Indigo has cancelled few flights to and from Dibrugarh and Guwahati in Assam for today. However, they are operating relief flights at capped fares for passengers who are currently at these locations. In addition to this, the airline is offering rescheduling/cancellation fee waiver to the passengers travelling to/from Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Jorhat, the three key cities of Assam, until December 13, 2019.
Goair is having waiver on flights to and from Guwahati, until tomorrow. Likewise, another Indian low-cost carrier, Spicejet is giving full refund on flights to and from Guwahati and Dibrugarh.
The Tata-SIA airline, Vistara has extended its free change or cancellation facility on Guwahati and Dibrugarh flights until December 15.
