New London hotel The Standard is gearing up to open in Kings Cross on July 11.

It is the first Standard hotel in the UK, which currently has properties in New York, Miami and Los Angeles.

Located in a converted office block formerly occupied by Camden council, The Standard London will have 266 rooms in 46 styles, ranging from singles and ‘Cosy Core’ doubles to King rooms and terraced suites with outdoor bathtubs overlooking the iconic St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

All rooms will have down pillows, televisions, Bang and Olufsen bluetooth speakers, robes, bathroom amenities and stocked minibars.

The hotel will also offer free wifi, 24-hour room service and 24-hour gym access to all guests.

The hotel’s lobby lounge will host weekly live music and talks.

Food and drink will be provided by all-day restaurant Isla and bar Double Standard, both by chef Adam Rawson.

Isla will have a seasonal menu focused around British produce. It will be integrated with the lobby and hotel library, also extending into a garden terrace.

The hotel says Double Standard will be a “boisterous” space, with a menu drawing on traditional pub classics and New York dive bar food.

The drinks menu will include craft beer, wine and cocktails. Decor will combine the feeling of a British local with Instagram-friendly touches like pastel tiled flooring and rounded pink shelving.

In late summer a third venue will open with a rooftop restaurant and standalone bar by Michelin-starred chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, who currently runs the family-owned Casamia and Paco Tapas restaurants in Bristol.

The Standard is owned and operated by US-based Standard International, which also owns Bunkhouse hotels.

Earlier this year the group announced plans to open hotels in 14 locations; Paris, Milan, Lisbon, Mexico City, Chicago, the Maldives, Bangkok, Phuket, Jakarta, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Austin, New Orleans and Atlanta. The latter three will be Bunkhouse hotels.

“Sophisticated hotel owners and developers have taken note of how genuine and rich our culture and creativity are compared to the plethora of soulless ‘lifestyle brands’ popping up seemingly at every turn,” said Amar Lalvani, group CEO.

“We are excited to open the doors of The Standard, London very soon to demonstrate our unique take on hospitality to a new region of the world for us.”
