Cyclone Vayu disrupts flight operations across India 

In the wake of the tropical Cyclone Vayu, Airports Authority of India has decided to suspend flight operations in the major regions of Gujarat including Rajkot, Porbandar, Diu, Bhavnagar, Keshod and Kandla, among others.

Ahmedabad airport has shut operations to Porbandar, Diu, Kandla, Mundra and Bhavnagar for today.

AAI tweeted: 

Due to bad weather, around 400 flights were affected from Mumbai on June 12. According to PTI, as many as 194 departures and 192 arrivals were delayed, and at least two flights had to be diverted.

Low-cost carriers such as IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued a travel advisory for passengers travelling during this period.

Meanwhile, hundreds of air passengers were stranded at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru as flights either were cancelled or delayed due to Cyclone Vayu.

Flights from Bengaluru to Pune and Goa were affected.

The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation in Gujarat.

Chief minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani tweeted, “Reached State Emergency Operation Center, Gandhinagar and held a review meeting with officials on preparedness of state administration in view of #VayuCyclone forecast. Instructed officials to make all possible arrangements with a mission of ‘ Zero Tolerance and Zero Casualty.”
