Yet another high-profile name is set to grace Bangkok’s ever-booming hotel sector with The Ritz-Carlton the being latest brand to set its sights on the Thai capital.

The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok is being scheduled for a 2023 opening and will occupy the first 25 floors of a 50-storey tower in the upcoming One Bangkok mixed-use development – itself opening in 2022 – on Wireless Road in the Thai capital’s Lumphini central business district. Construction of the hotel is already underway.

“We are thrilled to announce plans for our first Ritz-Carlton hotel in the dynamic capital of Thailand, a country where we currently operate two Ritz-Carlton resorts,” said Craig S Smith, Marriott International’s president and managing director of Asia Pacific.

“Having a Ritz-Carlton in Bangkok – especially in the exciting One Bangkok district – will be an extraordinary addition to our luxury portfolio for our Marriott Bonvoy loyalty members, tourists, business travellers and local residents who seek the brand’s luxury accommodations, world-class service and culinary expertise.”

The hotel’s planned 259 guestrooms are expected to offer panoramic views of the adjacent Lumphini Park. Of the 259 accommodations, 32 of these will be suites and one will be a signature Ritz-Carlton Suite.

On the leisure and lifestyle side, the new Ritz-Carlton will offer four restaurants and bars, fitness facilities and a Ritz-Carlton Spa with six treatment rooms, “wet lounges”, whirlpools, saunas and steam rooms. A number of events facilities, including what is planned to be the largest ballroom in Thailand, round out the business facilities.

Described by Marriott as an “urban resort”, The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok will be the brand’s first city hotel in Thailand, joining The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui and Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve.

That being said, Ritz-Carlton does already have a presence in the Thai capital in the form of The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Bangkok, located in the city’s tallest tower, the “pixellated” King Power MahaNakhon tower.

Bangkok has seen a plethora of new hotels open up in recent years, with 2019 being no exception.

Last month saw the opening of the Rosewood Bangkok, also in Lumphini district, and this year is also expected to see the opening of the Capella Bangkok, Avani Sukhumvit Bangkok, Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, and the Orient Express Hotel.
