Intercontinental Hotels Group has announced plans to debut its boutique Kimpton brand in Spain and Thailand.

The 156-room Kimpton Barcelona will be located in the city’s old town on calle Duc, within a building formerly housing the NH Barcelona Centro.

Scheduled to open in the second half of 2019, the hotel will feature a swimming pool, all-day dining restaurant, and 250 sqm of events space.

Meanwhile the Kimpton Bangkok is scheduled to open in 2020 within Sindhorn Village, a 22-acre mixed use development next to the city’s Lumpini Park.

The hotel will feature 349 rooms and serviced residences, as well as two restaurants, a swimming pool, gym, spa, and seven meeting rooms.

Commenting on the Barcelona opening Kenneth Macpherson, CEO of EMEAA at IHG said:

“Barcelona is one of the most popular city break destinations in Europe, attracting over 30 million tourists each year. We’ve seen in Amsterdam how well our boutique luxury offering has been received in Europe and this new signing provides more momentum for Kimpton’s global growth, following other recent signings in Frankfurt and Tokyo.

“We’re confident Kimpton’s heartfelt, personalised service and bold design will resonate well with this vibrant and buzzing city and expect more signings as we continue to take this brand to new markets around the globe.”

IHG is set to add Kimpton’s first UK property next month – a rebranding of The Principal London.
