Premier Inn will open its second German property next month, located in Hamburg close to the city’s old town.

Premier Inn Hamburg City (Zentrum) is situated on Willy-Brandt Strasse, and will join the existing Premier Inn Frankfurt Messe which opened in 2016 on Europa Allee close to the Messe Frankfurt exibition complex.

Owners Whitbread said it “continues to be excited about the opportunity in Germany”, with a pipeline of 34 hotels totaling over 6,000 rooms.

In the UK meanwhile the group has experienced a mixed third quarter of trading, with total accommodation sales growth of 3.5 per cent reflecting “a strong Central London market and a weak regional market”.

Premier Inn recently announced plans for a 400-room property close to Canary Wharf in east London, which will be the brand’s tallest property in the UK, and its largest hotel in London.

Announcing its third quarter trading update, Whitbread said:

“We are cautious about the macro environment for the next financial year due to increased uncertainty and continuing high inflation. Although we are confident in our ability to create value from ongoing investment in the UK and increasing investment in international growth, in this environment we expect underlying profit before tax in FY20 to be consistent with this year.”

Whitbread completed its £3.9 billion sale of Costa Coffee to The Coca-Cola Company earlier this month, and said that is was now “a focused hotel business”, with over 800 Premier Inn hotels in the UK, Germany and the Middle East, and a committed pipeline of over 20,000 additional rooms.

This week Premier Inn also announced plans for a new-build property in Dublin’s city centre.
