Premier Inn has unveiled new no frills brand Zip by Premier Inn, with rooms starting from £19 per night.

The group said that the concept of the brand was to “Do the essentials brilliantly, then take away everything else”.

Customers get an 8.5 sqm room, with a single bed which can be converted into a double by sliding across a couch from the other side of the room, or used as twins.

Some rooms will have “small windows”, while other will have “lightboxes” – guests will be allocated rooms randomly on arrival and will not be able to pre-book a room with a window.

Other room facilities will include a TV, as well as “a small bathroom with a power shower, body wash and a towel, plus handy overhead storage and hangers”.

Rooms will be cleaned every three days, although guests can pay an extra £5 daily charge to increase this. Wifi is free throughout.

The hotels will feature an ironing room on each floor, a bar, chill out area with a TV and table football, and breakfast is available for £3.95.

Six rooms on the ground floor will be wheelchair accessible, with “en-suite wet rooms with grab rails, emergency pull cords and more space to manoeuvre”.

The first Zip hotel will open in Cardiff in March 2019 “with more coming soon”.

The Cardiff property will be located next to a David Lloyd Leisure Club on Ipswich Road, around ten minutes’ drive from the city centre.
