Hyatt has announced plans to add Hotel Sofia Barcelona to its Unbound Collection.
The 465-room property is located on Avenida Diagonal, close to FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium, and originally opened in 1975 as the Hotel Princesa Sofia.
It has previously operated under the Intercontinental brand, and was fully renovated in 2017 – it is set to join the Unbound Collection in January 2019.
Facilities include a Mediterranean-inspired spa, tropical garden pool, fitness centre, and five dining venues.
Hyatt launched The Unbound Collection in 2016, which it describes as “a portfolio of new and existing upper-upscale hotel properties, ranging from historic urban gems to contemporary trend-setters, boutique properties to resorts and private home accommodations”.
Properties already operating under the brand include Nish Palas in Istanbul, Hotel Martinez in Cannes, and Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz.
The Great Scotland Yard Hotel – housed within the former Scotland Yard Metropolitan Police headquarters on London’s Whitehall Place – will join the Unbound Collection when it opens. No date has yet been given for the opening of this property, although Hyatt notes that it is expected to open “in the near future”.
