Marriott has opened the latest property under it luxury lifestyle joint-venture brand with Ian Schrager.

The 100-room Edition Barcelona is housed within a converted office building in the Citutat Vella district of the Catalan capital, opposite the city’s Santa Caterina market.

Guests enter into a double-height lobby space featuring a sapphire blue Eric Schmitt chandelier and “a selection of timeless furniture pieces originally designed by Catalan masters Salvador Dalí and Antoni Gaudí”, with a lobby lounge area offering traditional living room seating and “a more intimate lounge area with low ceilings and large sheepskin armchairs”.

Facilities include a gym with wellness and meditation space, basement level restaurant Cabaret with a cocktail bar and stage area for performances and DJ sets, 10th floor bar and restaurant The Roof with a plunge pool and menu offering “small plates of light, flavourful Latin-American dishes with an Asian influence”, lobby level Bar Veraz with its own entrance and alfresco dining, and the mezzanine level Punch Room (a concept also operating at The London Edition) offering “long drinks, punches and sangrias served from vintage silver bowls”.

Opening rates at The Barcelona Edition start from €375 per night, including breakfast.

Earlier this year the brand opened The Bodrum Edition, situated in a wind-sheltered cove within Yalikavak bay on Turkish Riviera, looking out onto the Aegean Sea.

Forthcoming locations include Abu Dhabi, Times Square, West Hollywood and Tokyo.
