Accorhotels has opened its 100th midscale hotel in South America, with the unveiling of the Sao Paulo Berrini.
The 210-room hotel is located in one of the city’s main business districts, close to the American Consulate and the Morumbi and Market Place shopping centres.
Facilities include a fitness centre, sauna, Gourmet Bar and restaurant, and six meeting rooms.
Accorhotels opened its first property in South America in 1977 (the still operating Novotel Sao Paulo Morumbi), and the region is now the group’s third largest market, with more than 330 hotels in eight countries – Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
The group opened 52 properties across the region last year, and has targeted reaching 500 hotels in South America by 2020, with 175 properties currently in the pipeline.
Imminent openings include the Novotel Itu Golf and Resort in Brazil, and the Novotel Santiago and Novotel Vina del Mar in Chile.
Earlier this year Accorhotels signed an agreement to acquire Chilean group Atton Hoteles, which operates 11 properties across Chile, Peru, Colombia and Florida, with three hotels currently under development.
