Business Traveller China Awards 2018 results

Around 250 key individuals from the travel industry were honoured today at the 14th annual Business Traveller China Awards ceremony. The prestigious event took place over a lavish dinner at the Wanda Reign on the Bund, Shanghai.

As always, the results were based on votes by the highly discerning readership of Business Traveller China, representing crucial customer feedback.

Prolific winner Singapore Airlines was once again crowned Best Airline in the World, and also picked up awards for its quality premium cabin products in the Best Airline First Class and Best Airline Business Class categories. It also managed to keep hold of the award for Best Asian Airline serving China. Meanwhile, close rival Cathay Pacific retained the title for Best Frequent Flyer Programme thanks to its Marco Polo Club programme. Sister airline Cathay Dragon also once again won the award for Best Airline Economy Class.

A massive change for Best American Airline saw last year’s winner Delta Air Lines knocked off the podium, replaced by this year’s victor American Airlines. Other regional winners included Hainan Airlines, Lufthansa and Qatar Airways for Best Chinese/European/Middle-Eastern Airline serving China, respectively.

There were some shifts for the best airport categories too. Having been toppled from the top spot by Hong Kong Airport for Best Airport Duty Free in the World last year, long-time winner Incheon Airport reclaimed the title in 2018. But it wasn’t all bad news for Hong Kong International Airport, which kept a hold of its leadership in the Best Airport in China category. However it was not enough to unseat Singapore Changi Airport as the Best Airport in the World for another year running.

In the hotel categories, Grand Hyatt has once again been named Best Hotel Brand in the World, while Shangri-La held on to its title of Best Hotel Brand in China.

Jostling in the luxury categories saw Wanda Reign on the Bund take home the award for Best Luxury Hotel in China, unseating last year’s winner Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund. Meanwhile newly opened The Middle House, Shanghai took the number one position for Best Design Hotel in China. Another newcomer, the Kerry Hotel Hong Kong took home the trophy for Best MICE Hotel in China and this year’s Best New Business Hotel in China award went to the Bellagio Shanghai.

The Business Traveller Asia-Pacific and China Charity Auction 2018 has started. All proceeds will go to the Chi Heng Foundation, which helps thousands of children and youngsters affected by HIV and AIDS in rural China.
