United Airlines will upgrade its San Francisco–Shanghai service by introducing a second daily frequency on the route.
According to routesonline.com, the Star Alliance member will deploy its new B787-9 on the San Francisco–Shanghai service from October 14, which will complement the current B747-400 service.
The B787-9 features a two-cabin setup, offering 48 seats in business and 204 in economy. The B747-400, however, offers three classes: 12 seats in first, 52 in business and 310 in economy. Overall, route capacity will increase by 67 per cent.
The new Dreamliner service will see flight UA891 depart San Francisco at 1450 and arrive in Shanghai Pudong at 1845 the following day. The return flight UA890 will then take off from Pudong International Airport at 0005 and touch back down in San Francisco at 1910 the day before.
As part of its ongoing effort to attract more customers from the mainland, the Chicago Business Journal reports that United will be staffing the San Francisco–Shanghai route with more Mandarin-speaking flight attendants, while also offering a greater variety of Chinese cuisine and in-flight entertainment content.
