India’s low-cost airline GoAir commenced two new flights from Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan International airport (Patna) to Delhi and Bengaluru.

GoAir discontinued its Patna-Kolkata service and introduced these routes. The flights will operate via Ranchi, Bihar.

Another budget airline — IndiGo — has also planned two flights to Bengaluru (and Kolkata). These are yet to materialise.

Airlines have been eyeing new routes from Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan International airport for some time.

According to the assistant general manager, air traffic management, Patna airport, Santosh Kumar

“The proposal submitted to director general of civil aviation (DGCA) was for additional eight flights. However, a few operators later withdrew their proposals.”

With the introduction of the new routes, the Patna airport now operates 42 flights daily.

The Times of India recently reported that the airport runway was shorter than 2,000m and as such “could only accommodate Airbus 321, 320 and 319 and that, too, with special efforts”.
