The Chow Kit - Type B Guest Room

Southeast Asian hospitality group Ormond Group will open its first Ormond Hotels property in Kuala Lumpur in the fourth quarter of this year.

The new hotel, named The Chow Kit, is situated in the eponymous Chow Kit neighbourhood famous for its local wet market, a five-minute walk from the hotel. It is also close to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, the Malaysian capital’s central business district.

The hotel will feature 113 rooms and suites. In-room amenities include “plush beds”, an open wardrobe, work desk, smart TV, “bespoke toiletries” and a “self-pick-up room service concept”, which allows guests to call down to the hotel’s in-house restaurant from their rooms to order food and go down to collect it when it is ready, instead of having a waiter bring up the food to their rooms.

The Chow Kit - Kitchen & Bar

Chow Kit Kitchen, the hotel’s restaurant, is located on the ground floor. The restaurant will serve à la carte breakfast, an express lunch menu, and family style sharing plates based on local Malaysian cuisine for dinner. The bar in the restaurant will offer cocktails from 11am to midnight. There will also be regular restaurant pop-ups featuring guest chefs and mixologists.

The Library, also situated on the ground floor, is designed to be used for private dining parties for up to ten people, or small meetings. The mezzanine space above the ground floor can be converted to additional meeting and event rooms.

Meanwhile, the hotel will roll out an “Art Programme”. This will see curated artworks, individually selected from private collections or commissioned from artists in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, displayed in both the public areas and guestrooms,

In terms of recreational options, there will be a rooftop yoga pavilion where guests will have access to weekly yoga and meditation sessions. In-house guests will also get curated lists of what to see, eat and do in the neighbourhood. The hotel will also help organise themed walking tours around the Chow Kit district.

Ormond Group now owns and manages three hotel brands, including Ormond Hotels, Momo’s and Tune Hotels, with two more Ormond Hotels set to open in Melbourne and Dublin by 2022, and a Momo’s hotel slated to open in Kuala Lumpur this year.
