Austrian-born and US-based star chef Wolfgang Puck is a veteran in the global fine dining space, and successfully runs a network of restaurants across continents. The London outpost of his popular steakhouse CUT — which first opened at the Beverly Wilshire — enjoys pride of place across the street from Hyde Park, in the premises of the exquisite 45 Park Lane. The menu boasts one of London’s most exquisite selections of Wagyu beef. A case in point is the ubiquitous “steak frites” option, where you can choose from a 6-ounce Australian Wagyu New York sirloin at £58 (`5,800) or the ultimate Japanese Wagyu New York sirloin at a whopping £155 (`15,500). Another CUT signature is the pan-roasted Scottish lobster with a black truffle emulsion. For lunch, we also sampled the sashimi grade big eye tuna steak, done to perfection and served with chilli ponzu and miso aioli. As a complete indulgence on the side, we also ordered a classic sole meunière, sautéed beautifully and served with parsley and preserved lemon. Steak lovers will rejoice at the large selection of prime cuts, which you can order weight-wise.

Verdict: If you’ve been a patron of Puck’s global restaurants and are looking for a good old-fashioned steak, with a glass of high-quality wine, Cut at 45 Park Lane is for you. Riaan Jacob George
