Background: I spent three hours in transit in the SilverKris Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport, on a flight between Hong Kong and Mumbai, via Singapore. The award-winning airline has designed this lounge to reflect different facets of living — relax, dine, work, unwind — seen in the divided sections of the lounge.

Where is it: The SilverKris Lounge is located in Terminal 3, just above the Duty Free shops. The lounge is closest to the set of A gates, which are most frequently used for A380 flights to India and Australia, making it an easy walk from the lounge to the aircraft.

Who can access it: Passengers travelling on Suites, First and Business Class on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir can access the SilverKris Lounge, on presenting of their onward boarding pass. Passengers travelling in First or Business Class on Singapore Airlines’ partner airlines are also eligible.

What’s It like: As soon as you walk into the lounge and walk past a gorgeous batik-motif screen at the entrance, you enjoy an instant sense of relaxation. The lounge is cut off from the hustle of the terminal and duty-free shops, just below, and its vast sprawl is divided into different areas for dining, relaxing, working and reading. The comfortable armchairs by the large glass windows are most comfortable and almost all seats have adjacent charging sockets, and WiFi passwords prominently displayed across the lounge. There is a separate bar area for drinks and coffee, with high, communal tables. There are massive chillers where you can help yourself to beer and soft drinks, as well as coffee machines and a wide selection of TWG teas. There is a massive buffet area with a selection of cold and hot items, for either a snack or a heavy meal. In terms of options, the hot section included a generous selection of Western, Asian and Indian dishes, as well as some Singaporean favourites such as fried noodles. This lounge also has shower facilities.

Verdict: Given that Singapore Changi Airport is already such a wonderful place to transit through, the SilverKris Lounge only makes the wait more pleasant and memorable
