Eurostar provides more space at Brussels Midi

25 Apr 2017 by Alex McWhirter

Eurostar, the train firm linking London with Brussels and Paris, has enlarged the check-in areas at its Midi terminal in the Belgian capital.

The new and larger passenger area at Brussels’ Midi station quietly opened today.

Eurostar’s check-in area is now bigger, brighter and designed so that passengers can circulate more freely. In short the idea is to make the whole process smoother.

Business Premier passengers (who pay considerably more) have a separate check-in line after which they proceed straight to the (Business Premier) lounge.

Readers who have used the Midi terminal in the past will know that the extra space is needed and especially at busy times and when services get disrupted for one reason or another.

Although Eurostar recently began operating fewer London-Brussels trains (a result of the terror attacks) in January (see Online News, November 24) each trainset accommodates 750 passengers which is not far removed from the capacity of two A380 super jumbos.

And the departures’ area will soon get busier still.

Eurostar confirms to Business Traveller that next month [MAY] will see new Siemens trainsets will start to enter service to Brussels. Each of these trainsets will accommodate up to 900 passengers.

It is about time. The Siemens trainsets already operate the busier London-Paris route but until now they have need to secure Belgian approval before being allowed to operate into Brussels Midi.

In any case these trainsets will be rostered for Eurostar’s forthcoming London-Amsterdam direct service which crosses Belgium.
