Marriott International is bringing its Moxy Hotels brand to the US with eight city locations lined up.
The economy brand said it has "eight identified projects" including three in New York City (Chelsea, Midtown and Lower Manhattan) and hotels in San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans and Chicago.
The first Moxy hotel opened in Milan last September (see news, August 21).
Tina Edmundson, Marriott's global officer of luxury and lifestyle brands, said: "Moxy clearly resonates with the young and young at heart – it's fun, edgy, and social, all with a youthful spirit."
Eric Jacobs, Marriott's chief development officer, added: "We have implemented a development strategy across North America in locations that meet the Moxy mantra – high performing markets and urban locations popular with millennials. We are focusing on travelers looking for comfort, distinct style and affordability."
Moxy Hotels is also scheduled to open numerous properties in Europe, including one at London Heathrow this year (see news, November 2013).
