Qantas opens first class lounge in Los Angeles

22 Dec 2014 by Clement Huang

Qantas has opened Qantas First Lounge at LAX.

Qantas First Lounge in LA

Featuring a design based on the airline’s flagship First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne, the new facility provides seating for more than 200 customers and different zones to dine, relax, work and socialise. It is also the first Marc Newson-designed first class lounge located outside of Australia. The industrial designer is famous for his biomorphism style, with motifs drawn from nature.

Service in Qantas First Lounge

“This new lounge is symbolic of our continued investment in our customers and commitment to the US market. We are the only airline to operate non-stop A380 services between Australia and the United States, we’ve recently introduced the A380 on services between Sydney and Dallas/Fort Worth and opened a new Business Lounge in LA in June,” said Alan Joyce, Qantas Group chief executive.

“Lounges are important to our international customers’ journey, which is why we have drawn on the knowledge of world leading experts like Marc Newson and Qantas Chef Neil Perry to deliver the most luxurious experience before people even step on board”.

Bar

Features in the LA Qantas First Lounge include Californian Knoll furniture specially selected by Newson, with finishes that include American oak walls, Tuscan Carrara marbled floors and a 48-foot-long bar, as well as Tai Ping wool carpets from Hong Kong.

As usual, Qantas’ consulting chef Neil Perry adds his own culinary touch to the lounge’s 74-seat restaurant and bar where customers can dine from an a la carte menu based on recipes from the chef’s Rockpool Bar and Grill restaurants.

The menu will be updated seasonally to take advantage of the best produce, but highlights will include signature dishes such as Black Angus minute steak with chipotle butter and lime, and salt and pepper squid.

Other lounge features include faster wifi, wireless printing, cable television, two private work suites and seven shower suites featuring ASPAR products by Australia-based Aurora Spa. The airline has also partnered with luxury hotel brand Sofitel to offer dedicated check-in, fast-track immigration and dedicated boarding.

Welcome to the Qantas First Lounge

The Qantas First Lounge is located on Level 5, Airside Departures at Tom Bradley International Terminal, and is open to first class passengers travelling with the Flying Kangaroo; Qantas Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers; and oneworld Emerald members.
