Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has taken delivery of the 100th Boeing 737 that it ordered directly from the American aircraft manufacturer.
"The 737 has, and continues to be, an amazing aircraft for our airline with its consistent reliability, unmatched economics and innovation in passenger comfort," said Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, group chief executive officer, Malaysia Airlines. "We used a 737 for our very first flight in 1972 and we are excited to now take delivery of our 100th airplane of its type."
Aviation enthusiasts will remember that MAS took delivery of its first B737, a -200, in 1972. Ever since then, the carrier has operated the B737-200, B737-300, B737-400, B737-500 and the incumbent B737-800.
The new aircraft will be used to serve the airlines’ short-to medium-haul routes alongside the other B737-800s currently in service. It also sports the Boeing Sky Interior, with larger pivoting overhead stowage bins, larger windows and LED lighting.
MAS has a further 10 B737-800s on order.
