THAI rumoured to add Dusseldorf, reduce Frankfurt

19 Aug 2014 by Tamsin Cocks

A source close to THAI has told Business Traveller Asia-Pacific about the legacy carrier’s plan to return to the western German city of Dusseldorf when it changes to the winter schedule on November 1.

TG926 will depart Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) at 0055 and arrive at Dusseldorf’s Rhein-Ruhr Airport at 0700 the same day. TG927 will return from Dusseldorf at 1315 and arrive back at Suvarnabhumi at 0550 the following morning. THAI last served Dusseldorf some 20 years ago under the same flight numbers.

The four-times-weekly flights are planned using a three-class B747-400.

With the addition of Dusseldorf, THAI is expected to reduce its Frankfurt service to once a day (from twice-daily). Lufthansa’s daily Frankfurt-Bangkok rotation remains unaffected.

Dusseldorf has recently experienced a surge in traffic from the Asia-Pacific. ANA has started a daily B787 Dreamliner service connecting it with Tokyo’s Narita, while Etihad has announced it will make Dusseldorf the maiden destination of its new B787-900 aircraft. Emirates, meanwhile, sends double-daily B777-300ERs to the popular congress city bordering on many of Germany’s most populated regions.

Business Traveller Asia-Pacific will update this post as soon as THAI officially confirms the schedule changes.
