Airbus has today launched its A330neo programme, announcing two variants — the A330-800neo and the A330-900neo.
The wide-body aircrafts will feature the latest generation of jet engine, the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000, along with aerodynamic enhancements and new cabin features.
According to the European aircraft manufacturer, the A330neo is capable of reducing fuel consumption by 14 per cent per seat over existing A330 models, as well as increasing its range by up to 400 nautical miles.
The aerodynamic improvements are made possible through the use of winglets inspired in their design by those featured on the upcoming A350 XWB.
Increased wing span and new engine pylons are other engineering features set to better the A330neo's aerodynamics and, hence, performance bottom-line.
The neo's cabin layout will be further optimised to offer up to ten additional 18-inch wide seats, but in general remains reminiscent of current A330 cabins fitted with mood-lighting features and in-flight wifi connectivity.
Fabrice Brégier, Airbus president and chief executive, said: "We see strong market potential for the A330neo, and like its market-leading smaller sister, the A320neo, we are confident this new aircraft will be a success in the medium-haul segment."
Deliveries of the A330neo are expected to commence in the final quarter of 2017.
