Swiss introduces allocated seating

15 Jul 2014 by GrahamSmith

Swiss has launched new inflight services including allocated seating.

The national airline has introduced its "Swiss Choice" range, giving passengers the options of reserving a seat in advance, arranging an "inflight treat" for themselves or a travelling companion, or pre-ordering inflight duty-free items.

Under the new "advanced seat reservation" option on Swiss' website, a standard seat can be reserved for around £6 in Europe or around £19 on long-haul flights.

A "preferred zone seat" will cost around £12 in Europe and £32 long-haul, and an "extra-legroom seat" is available for £23 on European services and around £65 on long-haul flights.

Seats can be reserved any time from 11 months to 48 hours before departure, for any flights from July 15 onwards.

Markus Binkert, Swiss' chief commercial officer, said: "In offering these new service products we are fulfilling the desire among our customers for greater individual flexibility in their travel planning.

"And we'll continue to steadily expand the range of our extra services here, in close alignment to our customers' wishes and needs.

Swiss is also eyeing the introduction of booking additional baggage in advance before the end of the year.

Last year, Swiss brought in reduced fares for passengers flying to/from Geneva who do not have checked baggage (see news, July 2013).
