Shangri-La to open Shard hotel in May

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will open its hotel inside London’s iconic The Shard tower in May, it was announced today.

The 202-room Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London will occupy floors 34 to 52 of the 72-storey, 306-metre-high glass building at London Bridge. When it opens on May 6, it will be the tallest hotel in western Europe.

It will be the group’s third European property, following openings in Paris in 2010 (to read a review, click here) and Istanbul last year (see news, May 2013).

The Shard

As a result of The Shard’s spiral shape, each guestroom and suite, which range from 30 sqm to 188 sqm, is individual in layout and design.

All will feature floor-to-ceiling windows with unrivalled views across the city, marble-clad bathrooms with heated floors, separate bathtubs, Acqua di Parma amenities and mirrors with integrated television screens. Over a third of bathrooms will have city views.

The hotel will also contain a bar on the 52nd floor, two restaurants, a 24-hour gym and London’s highest infinity pool.

Greg Dogan, Shangri-La president and CEO, said: “Our continued expansion in Europe reflects the growth opportunities for the brand and portfolio.

“The Shard is a landmark synonymous with London and we hope to encourage visitors to our hotel, and the surrounding area.”
