Shangri-La has opened a luxury hotel in Istanbul, its second property in Europe.

The 186-room Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul is located on the site of a former tobacco warehouse from the 1930s.

Set on the European side of the Bosphorus Strait between the Dolmabahce Palace and Naval Museum, the hotel overlooks the Istanbul’s domes and minarets and the green hills of the city’s Asian shores.

There are 17 suites, nearly all of which have private terraces offering Bosphorus vistas. One, the Shangri-La Suite, has three terraces overlooking the old city of Sultanahmet, Asian shore of Anatolia and the Bosphorus Bridge.

The six-storey property has a neo-classical facade that has been restored and two preserved Sycamore trees, one 150 years old and the other 350, stand in the courtyard.

Other features include a spa with private spa suites, an indoor swimming pool, and a health club with sauna, Jacuzzi and steam rooms.

Earlier this year, the Hong Kong-based Shangri-La enhanced its wifi internet services by offering complimentary access in its limousines (see online news, January 23).
