Norwegian to increase flights between UK and Spain

29 Oct 2013 by GrahamSmith

Norwegian has opened a new base of operations in Tenerife, resulting in an increased number of flights to the UK and two new German routes.

From October 31 until February 13, the carrier will operate three weekly flights between London Gatwick and Malaga. This will become a daily service from February 14.

Norwegian will also fly four times weekly between LGW and Tenerife from October 31 until January 30. The following day, the service will turn daily.

The new base at Tenerife South Airport is Norwegian's fourth base in Spain, along with Alicante, Malaga and Las Palmas.

Norwegian CEO Bjorn Kjos said: "Our new base at Tenerife is established to meet the great demand for quality flights at a low fare between Europe and this beautiful island.

"We see a major passenger potential between Spain, Germany and UK. The great response to our routes between Spain and the Nordic also encourages us to increase frequencies to our existing route map."

The new German routes are a twice-weekly Tenerife to Berlin service from February 1 and a twice-weekly Gran Canaria to Berlin operation from the next day.

Norwegian is also upping the frequency on several other routes between Germany and Spain.

Earlier this month, it emerged that Norwegian will fly from London Gatwick to New York JFK, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale (see news, October 17).
