British Airways Executive Club members can from today use their Avios on all the airline's short-haul flights within or from the UK.
Passengers can receive £30 off a short-haul flight by using up to 4,500 Avios. Using 3,000 Avios will reduce a fare by £20, while 1,500 Avios will result in a £10 discount.
BA already offers Executive Club members the opportunity to use part Avios, part cash to pay for an Avios redemption seat.
But this new option will allow them to use Avios on any European booking, not just redemption seats, in either the Euro Traveller (economy) or Club Europe (business class) cabin.
Members will still collect Avios and Tier Points on these flights and the discount applies to all fare types, including the new hand-baggage only and semi-flex fares.
Robin Glover-Faure, head of short-haul at BA, said: "Our most loyal customers in the Executive Club have told us they want more ways to use their Avios and this new option is in response to that feedback.
"It enables them to realise real cost savings – as much as 38 per cent off in some cases – on European flights, so flights to somewhere like Barcelona could cost as little as £48 return and 4,500 Avios for someone on a hand-baggage only fare."
Executive Club members will receive further details in the coming week, a spokesperson for BA said.
Last month, Avios teamed up with Heathrow Express to allow members to earn points when they buy train tickets online (see news, September 27).
