Scoot expands to Perth

16 Oct 2013 by Clement Huang

Scoot has revealed that it will begin flying from Singapore to Perth from December 19. The Singapore low-cost carrier will operate five direct weekly services between the two destinations.

The route will be serviced by one of Scoot’s Boeing 777 aircraft that were formerly part of the Singapore Airlines’ fleet but have been refitted to offer a budget product. It will feature 32 seats in business class and 368 in economy.

While Scoot offers a two-class configuration, there are four different types of seats that make up the airline’s economy class. Standard economy class seats feature a 31-inch pitch, while "super seats" located between rows 61 to 64 offer 35-inch of legroom.

"S-t-r-e-t-c-h" seats are near identical to the super seats but are located at the front of the economy class cabin. Finally, the highly controversial ScootinSilence cabin in rows 21 to 25 is located just behind the business class section, and is the airplane’s child-free zone (see here).

Scoot’s business class product is branded as ScootBiz. It offers leather seats that are 22-inches wide and offer at least 38-inches of legroom, along with 8-inches of recline. Passengers travelling on the premium cabin are provided frills such as meals with beverages, 20kg of checked baggage allowance, priority boarding, as well as in-flight entertainment that is streamed to handheld tablets and devices.

While operation days for the route has not been detailed, Airline Route has reported that flight TZ008 will depart Singapore at 1250 and arrive in Perth at 1820. The return leg will see flight TZ007 leave Perth at 1930, before touching down in Singapore at 0040 the following day.

Perth will be Scoot’s third destination in Australia, after Sydney and Gold Coast. With other low-cost carrier brands such as Air Asia, Jetstar and Tigerair having extensive presence in Australia, Scoot adding services to Perth makes sense as it attempts to maintain its place in this lucrative market.
