Intercontinental Park Lane revamps Royal Suite

20 Mar 2013 by BusinessTraveller

Luxury London hotel the Intercontinental Park Lane has refurbished its Royal suite.

Inspired by the property’s location on the site of 145 Piccadilly, where the Queen lived as a child, it was designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates’ the Gallery studio in London.

Senior project designer Galina Ginzburg-Maly told Business Traveller that she was influenced by last year’s V&A exhibition of portraits of the Queen by Cecil Beaton.

The elegant 197 sqm, five-bedroom suite features a calm grey and metallic colour palette, oak floors, custom-made furniture and excellent views of Hyde Park and Hyde Park Corner through large windows.

There are subtle references to Her Majesty throughout, such as a hand-blown glass chandelier in the living room that was inspired by her diamond collection, and brass stud patterns on the doors inspired by her wardrobe.

The master bedroom features an emperor-size canopy bed, a walk-in wardrobe with black leather doors referencing her handbag, and a tongue-in-cheek artwork of her corgis in the bathroom. Toiletries are by Penhaligon’s.

Bespoke artwork includes a crown-themed signed print by Ann Carrington, who created the banner for the stern of the Royal barge for last year’s Jubilee Thames pageant, and regal-themed collages.

The suite can be connected to the duplex London suite next door – to be refurbished next month – to offer a total of 350 sqm of space.

Since the Olympics, some £2.5 million has been spent on upgrading the Royal suite, the hotel entrance and the mezzanine meeting and events floor. The Club Intercontinental lounge has also had a soft refurbishment, while 90 London rooms were redesigned last year, and the lobby in 2011.
