Air Philippines is now PAL Express

21 Mar 2013

Air Philippines, which is Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) low-cost subsidiary, has been rebranded PAL Express, a move dovetailing with the rejuvenation programme that has since last year affected operations of the resurgent carrier (see news and news). PAL’s familiar sunriser logo and livery will also be used on the budget carrier’s tail and fuselage.

“It’s not just a name change, but an alignment of two standards into one," PAL president Ramon S. Ang told local media last week. Though LCC in management, PAL Express will offer amenities found on full-service airlines such as complimentary snacks, drinks and reading materials on board and allow passengers to earn miles in PAL's loyalty scheme Mabuhay Miles, with more enhancements to be announced later. But its pricing will remain lower than that of PAL.

Since last year, PAL Express has assumed many smaller routes, formerly served by PAL, such as Manila to Basco, Batanes, Laoag, Ilocos Norte and Puerto Princesa, Palawan (gateway to the Underground River and the Tubbataha Reefs National Park, a World Heritage Site and dive mecca) among others.

It flies to two international points, Manila-Singapore and Cebu-Hong Kong, using a monoclass A320.
