The first London property by Dutch “luxury budget” brand Citizen M will open on July 4, located on Lavington Street behind the South Bank’s Tate Modern.
The 192-room Bankside property features an open plan lobby, ground-floor canteenM with wooden coffee bar and bakery-style open kitchen, four Mac computers for public use, and seven meeting rooms on the first floor accommodating between two and 24 guests.
Rooms feature beds measuring 2 metres x 2 metres, a small fridge, workdesk, vanity area and hanging space, free wifi and movies, and a touchscreen tablet controlling all electrical items including the TV, blinds, temperature, lighting and wake up alarms.
With a nod to the nearby Tate Modern, there is artwork throughout the property including a text piece by Turner prize-nominated Mark Titchner, a video installation by Belgian artist Hans ob de Beeck, and a floor-to-ceiling mural by collective Assume Vivid Astro Focus.
Room rates at the Citizen M Bankside range between £99 and £199. The hotel will join existing properties in Amsterdam and Glasgow, with two further hotels under development in London (see online news April 25), along with properties in New York, Paris and Rotterdam. The group says there are also plans for hotels in Hong Kong and Istanbul.
