Tsunami warning cancelled, operations normalised

12 Apr 2012

A tsunami warning, issued yesterday (Wednesday) after a magnitude 8.6 earthquake off the west coast of northern Sumatra, was withdrawn last night, allowing flight and airport operations to and from watch areas to return to normal.

Phuket International Airport, which temporarily suspended operations yesterday (see story here), has reopened. Malaysia Airlines announced that it has “normalised its twice daily flight operations to Phuket” and services to other watch cities, such as Colombo, Chennai and Male, are on schedule. Bangkok Airways, SilkAir, Tiger Airways and Jetstar have also resumed flights to the holiday destination.
