Etihad Airways is changing the number of miles earned by passengers travelling on certain fare codes, with some economy fares seeing the number of miles earned reduced to half the current amount.
Currently all passengers in Coral economy class earn 100 per cent of base miles, with Pearl business class travellers earning 150 per cent, and Diamond first class earning 200 per cent (with additional bonuses depending on tier status).
But from June 1, earning rates will be split into two tiers within each class, depending on fare code. Economy passengers travelling on fare codes E, U, V, L, Q, M and K will earn 50 per cent of base miles, with codes H, B and Y earning 100 per cent.
In business class fare codes W and D will attract 130 per cent of base miles, with passengers travelling on codes C and J earning 175 per cent.
Finally in first class those travelling on fare code R will earn 180 per cent of miles, with a new top rate of 250 per cent for those travelling on fare codes A and F.
These new changes will not affect the tier miles earning structure or the value of redemption bookings.
The changes follow the revamp of the Etihad Guest scheme last year – for more information see online news September 27, 2011.
