Mandarin Orchard Singapore launches advanced in-room technology

9 Feb 2012

Mandarin Orchard Singapore has launched an advanced in-room technology that allows guests greater conveniences such as being able to watch movies on an iPad, express check-out services and check flight status updates.

The hotel has equipped all 1,051 rooms with an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service that has been synchronised with the hotel’s iPads.

The IPTV programme offers guests an express check-out option as well as timely flight updates. Through the iPad, which also doubles up as a remote control for the TV, guests can view any messages left for them, as well as order and watch movies-on-demand or some TV channels directly from the tablet. This enables the guest to move around the hotel premises while watching films or TV. Currently, the system enables guests to watch only Bloomberg and BBC on the iPad but the hotel will eventually introduce more channels.

The iPad app that is integrated with the IPTV system can be downloaded by guests on to their own personal iPads and the hotel is working on an app out for Android gadgets as well.

Eventually, in the next phase of development, the hotel will upgrade the app in order to enable guests to order in-room dining via the iPad and control the room’s lighting in addition to more TV channels. Although a concrete timeline for this upgrade has not been announced, the hotel is aiming for the end of this year.
