BA, Bmi and Virgin offer to rebook flights over public sector strike period

28 Nov 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Carriers including British Airways, Bmi and Virgin Atlantic are advising passengers that they may rebook international flights due to arrive into the UK on Wednesday November 30, as the threat of long delays at airport immigration looms.

Up to two million public sector workers are set to strike over planned changes to pensions, including staff at the UK Border Agency.

Potential delays at immigration have led to international carriers placing warnings on their websites, with many offering passengers the option of rebooking their flights to avoid arrival on Wednesday.

Virgin Atlantic says travellers should give "serious consideration to changing their flight date in order to eliminate any inconvenience", with the option of rebooking to arrive either side of the strike date.

Bmi and BA are offering similar ticket changes free of charge, although at present all three carriers say they are planning to operate a normal schedule on Wednesday. Some airlines including Etihad and Aegean have cancelled certain services into the UK over the strike period.
