I used to rave about Byron Burger, but my last two times have put me off. Greasy food and indifferent staff – I was really shocked.

I returned to GBK recently and was pleasantly surprised.

Hache are brilliant, I haven’t been to meatliquor (behind Oxford Street) and I had a tasty burger in a place in Clerkenwell, think it was called Dollar.

Try these guys: just off Carnaby Street in London, W1.

I think they serve the best I have come across as well as a great selection of other hot sandwiches:

I enjoy the BurgerJoint at the Le Parker Meriden between 56th and 57th Street and 5th and 6th Ave in New York. Come early or late for lunch or dinner as the queue snakes it way through the reception area in peak times. Round off meal with a coffee and digestive at the lobby bar, another NYC favourite of mine:

In The US, a good chain that never dissappoints is Johnny Rockets, great burgers, and for the additional calorie boost, go for their Chili Cheese Fries! All set in a 50’s style Diner! Excellent fast food!

I find the food at Byron Burgers good, the staff, particuarly the more senior ones have an over developed sense of their own importance!

Just returned from 3 weeks on Martha’s Vineyard – SUNSHINE!!!

Meanwhile… discovered a new place called Pirate Jacks Burger Shack in the town of Oaks Bluff on MV. Quality of meat is excellent and perfectly cooked – just pink in the middle and juicy. For those wanting to watch their carbs they offer double burger without bread rolls! Some interesting toppings too. My favourite was the peanut butter and bacon. Sounds weird but actually very tasty. Although I still haven’t beaten my first choice of B&O’s Fish Wagon in Key West (see earlier post) but these guys came close.

    Ciao, R.
